We’re looking for passionate individuals to join the Empowerment Board at Rainbow City Performing Arts. Our board drives to provide opportunity and power to those at all parts of the experience curve, so we have a representative set of leaders that reflect our diverse community.

ABOUT RAINBOW CITY PERFORMING ARTS

At Rainbow City, we strive to uplift the LGBTQIA+ community through musical expression. Founded in 1998, we’ve grown into one of the most inclusive musical organizations in Seattle. With a 100% increase in membership over the past two years, we’re making a bigger impact than ever. From empowering queer artists to creating engaging performances, join us as we continue to foster community through music.

WHAT IS AN EMPOWERMENT BOARD?

Our Empowerment Board is an integral part of Rainbow City Performing Arts. It actively promotes DEIAB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Belonging) in all we do. Here’s what our board does:

  • Inclusive Decision-Making: Ensure diverse voices are heard in shaping our strategy and operations.
  • Community Engagement: Partner with and listen to diverse communities to amplify their perspectives.
  • Support for Growth: Create opportunities for equitable and inclusive staff and member development.

We drive to improve DEIAB outcomes by:

  • Implementing initiatives to promote inclusion.
  • Offering resources and training on DEIAB topics.
  • Monitoring and assessing progress to ensure accountability.

Your role on the board will directly shape these impactful efforts and evolve to meet future opportunities and challenges.

WHAT DO BOARD MEMBERS CONTRIBUTE?

Time Commitment

We value your time and participation. Most board members dedicate approximately 5-10 hours per month, which includes quarterly meetings, committee work, and supporting fundraising efforts.

Fundraising

Ensuring we have the funds we need is a group effort where we all contribute in our own ways. We make annual pledge commitments to keep accountable to a trajectory of group success. All board members must contribute an amount meaningful to them.

What You Bring to the Table

Bring your unique skills, experience, and passion to Rainbow City. Here’s some of what we’re looking for:

  • Skills: Leadership, financial management, marketing acumen or fundraising expertise.
  • Experience: Prior board service, volunteer management, or nonprofit networking.
  • Passion: A love for the community and belief in the power of music to inspire change.

Don’t have experience in all of these areas? That’s okay! We welcome everyone willing to make a meaningful difference with their own strengths and dreams.
