Title Assistant Drum Major
Reports to Ensemble Director – Rainbow City Marching Band
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Drum Major (ADM) plays a crucial role in supporting the Drum Major (DM) and ensuring the band’s success during performances. The ADM collaborates closely with the DM to maintain high musical standards, foster a positive environment, and lead the band with confidence.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assistance in Rehearsals and Performances:
- Works closely with the DM during rehearsals and performances.
- Leads sections of the band when necessary.
- Ensures smooth transitions and effective communication.
- Conducting and Signals:
- Learns and executes conducting patterns.
- Signals percussion sections for roll-offs, cues, and tempo changes during parades and standing performance.
- Leadership and Motivation:
- Encourages band members to give their best.
- Boosts morale and maintain a positive atmosphere.
- Sets an example of professionalism and dedication.
- Ensemble Communication:
- Relays instructions from the DM to band members.
- Assists in coordinating logistics during performances.
- Fosters clear communication within the band.
- Emergency Preparedness:
- Becomes familiar with emergency procedures during parades and events.
- Assists in keeping the band safe and organized.
- Uniform: Wears the full uniform when visible as a leader in public and during performances.
- Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal skills that align with and support the organization’s Mission and Core Values.
- Complies with the organization’s by-laws, policies, procedures, and member covenants; seeks clarification and guidance as necessary.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Passion for music and performance.
- Experience in marching bands or similar ensembles.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work involves walking, talking, and hearing; using hands to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry objects up to 35 pounds.
- The noise level in the work environment is varies but can be loud while ensemble is performing.
